Crock Pot Beef Stroganoff Whole 30
Beef Stroganoff is a archetype Russian effeminateness that oft consists of thinly sliced beefiness cooked in a sour-cream based sauce with mushrooms and onions.
Just nearly everyone has their ain spin on it and for my father that spin was extra garlic, lots of fresh dill and serving it over bootleg french fries.
Information technology wasn't something he made often. I can withal hear my female parent warning him that the copious amounts of margarine and sour foam he used to make the sauce were unhealthy. Turns out she was right. But every now and then my dad would telephone call my brother and I downward for dinner and pour behemothic spoonfuls of beefiness stroganoff into our bowls. It was always a mini celebration!
I've set out to recreate this childhood favourite in a lighter, healthier, just equally delicious version. This recipe is Whole30 compliant and Paleo friendly. Which is an easier manner of saying it'due south gratis of dairy, grains, gluten, refined saccharide, legumes and alcohol. So feel free to use information technology in your January Whole30 or fit it into your food freedom.
What Cuts of Beef Should I Use?
The type of beef you use to make this stroganoff is more of import than you may think. Cull something as well lean and your dish volition lack season. Cull something also fatty and yous'll exist overwhelmed by the richness. Likewise, choosing a tougher cutting will leave you lot with mouthfuls of chewy beef that will make your jaw sore.
My preferred cut of beef for this is tenderloin, but that can get very expensive very quickly. A great alternative is to choose something like flank steak, sirloin, top sirloin, or even vacio (often referred to every bit bavette). You lot desire something that cooks quickly but is tender. Besides, look for cuts with nice marbling, which will ensure a flavourful finished product.
Regardless of which cutting of beef you lot utilise, make sure you piece against the grain. Otherwise, you'll find yourself bitter into strips of shoe leather.
Which Pan Should I Utilise?
The type of pan you utilize to cook your Beefiness Stroganoff is likewise very important.
The goal is to develop a beautiful, intensely caramelized crust on the beef and the only style to practice that is to creepo the estrus way upwardly! It's also very of import non to overcrowd the pan!
Since about non-stick pans can commencement to breakup at higher temperatures, you'll want to use bandage-iron skilletor a heavy approximate stainless-steel .
Information technology's Not Beefiness Stroganoff Without Sour Foam
The secret to making this beef stroganoff fantastic is the coconut 'sour cream'. I've been using this quick-and-easy substitute for years now. Information technology'southward dandy overtop of Latkes or can be used to make an awesome Tzaziki .
Personally, I similar to serve beef stroganoff overtop of mashed potatoes (but referred to as 'purée' in Russian). The sauce gets soaked up past the creamy potatoes and makes everything that much more rich. Or, you can have it over fried potatoes and gustatory modality a piece of my childhood. Either way, you lot're in for a treat!

This recipe is amazing! So much flavour. I will be making this every week!
Hi Karen! Very happy you enjoyed! Thanks for letting me know!
OHMUHGAWD. This was astonishing!! Took me correct back to my childhood as well (just even BETTER) Thank you for creating this paleo version. That 'sour cream'!! p.s. I watched your stories on repeat & followed the online recipe at the same time. Perfection!
Hey Jen! Awesome! So glad yous enjoyed the recipe and stories!!!
So good!! My "sour cream" didn't look like yours. I did equally you said with a can of full fatty coconut milk. The fat became super difficult, more like kokosnoot oil. I removed that part and added the lemon juice. It didn't mix upward well but I effigy no biggie since information technology was going to mix in with the other ingredients in the pan. It tastes fantastic simply doesn't take that "stoganoff" white sauce look. But really, who cares! It gustation bomb
Hmmm it sounds similar yous did everything correctly just used the coconut water rather than foam. You'll want to mix the lemon juice with that super hard stuff! That'southward where the magic happens.
Wow, this recipe is astonishing! I cannot rave plenty. I doubled the mushrooms and added an assorted pack (I dear me some shrooms)! Glad to take a salubrious alternative to ane of my babyhood favorites!
🙂 And so glad you enjoyed! It's a personal favourite besides!
Another great recipe!!! Husband approved!!!
This was amazing! I'm with your dad- extra garlic AND extra dill did the fox for me! Reminded me of my babushkas recipes! Succulent on day of simply even better as left-overs.
This was amazing! And then Tasty! Do you think it would work well throwing all the ingredients in a crockpot? I always prefer baking or crock pot if I tin can.
I don't think this would work in a crockpot. Likewise, the whole process shouldn't have more than than 30 minutes 🙂
Then good! I made it this night and it exceeded my expectations.
Thanks for this bully recipe!
SO GOOD. This recipe is the best. I'm with your dad- extra garlic AND extra dill added at the cease. Reminded me of my babushka's cooking! Definitely a make again at my house!!!!
Incredible! The "sour cream" is amazing. I didn't take coconut milk so I used whipping cream. Also, I used Amish noodles instead of the mashed potatoes because that is what I had on mitt! Can't await to effort it again, with the coconut milk and mashed potatoes! Cheers!
Incredible
I forgot to make the 'sour cream' ahead of time and will be making this tonight 🙁 Am I doomed?!
Sad that I'm only seeing this at present. For a thick and creamy consistency, refrigerating the milk or cream is crucial.
Options for replacing coconut milk and ghee?
If paleo and whole30 aren't considerations then y'all tin simply use regular sour cream and butter.
I subbed one/4 cup nutritional yeast for mustard (due to a mustard allergy) and any more lemon — information technology turned out fantastic! I'one thousand so making this once again!! Thanks for another neat recipe Uncle Ronny!
Vivid! I would take never thought to substitute nutritional yeast! Very glad you enjoyed!
Do you have diet info for this recipe or others? Request before I calculate. Probably my favorite meal this go of the Whole 30! Cheers!
Hi Meghan, I'm afraid I don't. Sorry about that!
So excited to effort this! Could you lot sub a can of kokosnoot foam mixed with lemon juice for the sour cream?
Definitely! Substantially what happens when y'all place the can of coconut milk in the fridge overnight is the cream solidifies at the peak. If you start with coconut foam it will be that much easier to get a thick and creamy consistency.
Just verifying!
I forgot to put coconut milk in fridge last nighttime, but i can use a tin can of coconut foam instead? Unabridged tin?
I would still place in the fridge overnight if using kokosnoot cream to ensure that you lot are able to scoop out the solids only. Each brand differs in terms of how much coconut h2o is mixed into the cream. Hope that helps!
And so glad I came across this recipe! So succulent!
Actually neat recipe! Fabricated it this night for me (Paleo) and my husband (not-Paleo) and there were no complaints! Only change was chives for dill as that's the way my mom used to get in. Quick question though: y'all have yours over mashed potatoes, but I didn't think potatoes were paleo – are they? Thanks for a corking recipe!
Correct, white potatoes are not considered paleo. They are, however Whole30 compliant, and I have found that I tolerate them quite well so I include them in my diet quite regularly.
[…] you loved my Beefiness Stroganoff, you're going to really enjoy this Chicken Stroganoff. It's just as easy to gear up, virtually […]
Finally, Stroganoff once more . . . sublime!
